Never underestimate the power of a pink bullhorn.
Ha!
For months the National Nattering Nabobs have been huffing and puffing and assuring us that Florida was never going to fall for the Democratic Socialist wave that naive Dems up north have been eating up.
Lot’s of crow was eaten today, after lowly State Rep. Angie Nixon – she of the pink bullhorn – trounced an opponent who might as well have had “Democratic Establishment” stamped on his forehead.
And never mind that Alex Vindman had more money than God ($16 million to her $970,000), a respectable military background and a compelling story about standing up to Trump.
Somethin’s happening here, Florida. And what it is ain’t exactly clear. Yet.
What day is it?

Meanwhile, back in little blue GNV.
The return of Mayor Harvey Ward and Commissioners Casey Willits and Brian Eastman – along with Nathan Crabbe’s easy win – gives our City Commission a solid majority of like minds that can pretty much pursue any progressive agenda they care to.
Always assuming, of course, that said like-minded commissioners have the courage of their convictions and are willing to take the occasional risk here and there.
In Florida they might call Angie Nixon’s win a sea change. Here in GNV we call the commission results just another Tuesday.
Shake up the house

Up in The Great DeSanizer’s Tallahassee they called Tina Certain “toxic” – which is GOP mansplaining for Black women who won’t sit down and shut up.
Back home we just called ‘toxic’ Tina a winner.
Certain’s County Commission win over three other candidates – including a career county employee who establishment Dems backed as the least likely to rock the boat – is yet another example of yesterday being just another Tuesday locally.
Voters here are loud, proud to be true blue, and not at all loath to do a little boat rocking.
And if you consider the current commission a little too staid – as in reluctant to color outside the lines – Tina Certain is bound to rock the county’s comfortable boat.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that she will be the most, um, interesting (dare I say provocative?) county commissioner since Penny Wheat stepped down more than 20 years ago.
Say what you want about Penny (and I have). She had a loyal following and she never, never minced her words or pulled her punches.
