The great unifier

Once again I find myself rising to the defense of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Yes, it’s a dirty job. But someone’s got to yada, yada, yada…..

I know, I know. He’s on a hard climb to the White House, and he’s going stay the course no matter how many dead COVID victims he has to climb over.

And as each day passes, it’s getting harder and harder to find something, anything, nice to say about the guy. (Nice smile you got there, Ron. Nice first name, Ron….um…)

But let’s give credit where credit’s due here. DeSantis has done something that I woulda swore couldn’t be done.

He unified the Alachua County School Board.

When DeSantis removed Diyonne McGraw from the board, he shattered a razor thin 3-2 majority that was determined to remake the school system and upset the old educational establishment order.

And he didn’t bother to replace her, leaving a 2-2 board schism whose members wouldn’t agree on the time of day if you held a gun to their heads.

We’re not just talking ideological differences here. These people really didn’t like each other. And they didn’t care who knew it.

And then Da-Do-Ron-Ron-Ron saved the day.

He gave the fractious school board common ground around which to rally.

Opposition to Gov. Ron’s insane anti-mask dictates.

And they did it because saving young lives is more important than protecting Ron’s polling numbers any day.

Heck, he even made a national hero out of Superintendent Carlee Simon (she’s been on Morning Joe and everything). This is a women who coulda been fired on any given day if the right board member had gotten, say, COVID, and missed a meeting.

Now the board is standing together, standing tough and standing tall. They are literally daring Gov. Runaway Ron to remove them from office for refusing to risk children’s lives.

And if he does, you can bet that our next school board meeting will be convened in the Oval Office of the White House. Heck, they’ll probably get Presidential Medals Of Freedom from Joe (“Gov. Who?”) Biden.

Thank you, board members, for doing the right thing – and for insisting on carrying out your state constitutional responsibilities – in the face of an irrational state policy endowing parents with the right to have their children infect OPC (other peoples children).

And thank you, Ron, for unifying a board whose members once looked like they were going to have to settle their difference with brass knucks.

Kudos to Ron DeSantis, the Great Unifier.

Now get the hell out of the way Ron.

Nice first name, though.
