Eat your heart out Readers Digest
Wow! Hand it to Floriduh’s Board of Governors for reviving a lost art form. This from the Orlando Sentinel’s Scott Maxwell:
The gubernatorial appointees who oversee the state’s university system recently approved disemboweling an intro-to-sociology textbook, removing more than half of its content, including an entire chapter on “Race and Ethnicity,” which are pretty key concepts in sociology. When the erasure enthusiasts were done, they had deleted more than 400 pages from a textbook that originally had 667, a slew of examples about how women have experienced gender discrimination and almost all references to racism.
I dunno about you, but when I was a kid my parents used to order those Readers Digest truncated books, presumably because they were working stiffs and didn’t have time to plowthrough the originals.
Hell, Floriduh’s BOG just made Readers Digest book editors look like pikers.
Floriduh freedum comes cheap
The thing that strikes me about this here Free State Of Floriduh is just how cheaply our political masters think they can convince us that we are really and truly free.
Case in point: A bill is moving through the Legislature to prevent cities and counties from banning gas powered leaf blowers and lawn mowers.
Of course this is the same Legislature that wants to give The Gubernator authority to declare your bowling club a domestic terrorist organization, dumb-down your kids’ school books, limit your ability to vote, penalize you for being Woke and on and on and on.
But listen! It’s like I been sayin’ from the very beginning: Libs can have my leaf blower when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers, pal!
Bully boy in chief
Speaking of The Gubernator, our anti-Ron just got slapped down pretty good by a federal judge who…unlike our Guv…apparently did not sleep through law school.
The Great DeSanitizer unilaterally declared the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) a domestic terrorist organization because…well, why the hell not?
To which U.S. District Judge Mark Walker explained to the Gub why the hell not in no uncertain terms.
The question before this Court is whether the Governor can, in a non-emergency situation, unilaterally designate one of the largest Muslim civil rights groups in America as a ‘terrorist organization’ and withhold government benefits from anyone providing material support or resources to the group. This Court finds he cannot,
The First Amendment bars the Governor from continuing the troubling trend of using an executive office to make a political statement at the expense of others’ constitutional rights.
Unfortunately, in this instance, Defendant is choosing to be a bully—in the familiar sense of the term—from his pulpit….
Of course, our Great DeSanitizer would have known this already if he hadn’t gotten his law degree at Sears Roebuck.
BTW: None of the above is preventing our Leg from giving the Guv even more authority to unilaterally declare organizations he doesn’t like domestic terrorist groups.
And why not? This is the Free State Of Floriduh after all.
And to prove it I’m gonna put down my Readers Digest edition of War and Peace, set the First Amendment ablaze on my front lawn (and to hell with the county’s emergency burn ban) crack up my gas powered leaf blower after midnight and dare my woke city commissioners to pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
Because what’s freedum for?
