One morning at Camp Cruelty

There was a poignant bit of guerrilla theater at GNV’s Depot Circle Saturday morning. Theater of the sort that should, but likely won’t, put our elected leaders to shame.

Welcome to Camp Cruelty.

For a brief hour or so organizer Glenn Terry and dozens of supporters erected, filled and operated a miniature version of the sort of immigrant concentration camp that recently sprung up in the Everglades. You know, the one given the hideous name Alligator Alcatraz.

So named to give Florida’s GOP camp commandants a slick merchandise opportunity. Because if politicians can’t profit from their cruelty by selling a few t-shirts, then what’s the point?

There was no AA merch being peddled at GNV’s Camp Cruelty.

Just a lot of angry residents who wanted to register their outrage over the continued arrest, incarceration and deportation of people who came here foolishly believing in Lady Liberty’s promises.

Volunteer prisoners were lined up and marched, single file, under the watchful eyes of face-masked guards bearing clubs and zip ties.

And then they were crammed into a kennel sized enclosure. Under a sun that had already burned away the cool morning air.

This is America now.

And if you aren’t ashamed and disgusted by what we’ve become, then you must truly be proud MAGA patriot.
