Heartfelt in the heartland

I missed the GNV No Kings rally by virtue of being several states away, in the Wisconsin countryside.

Richland Center – so named, I assume, because it is in the center of Richland County – has a population of just over 5,000 souls. And the big event here this weekend is the High School State Finals Rodeo out at the county fairgrounds.

Richland Center is mostly famous as the birthplace of Frank Loyd Wright. And he designed the only warehouse of his career here – a top -heavy brick and poured concrete structure that, these days, hosts a lounge one night a week.

This may be a small town, but it wasn’t going to miss out on No King’s Day.

A small but respectable crowd of just under 100 turned out to wave signs, cheer at passing cars and express solidarity with millions of other Americans all across the country.

There was no trouble. Not even a cop car in evidence. Although one pickup truck did “roll coal” as it passed. Presumably in solidarity with He Whose Name Must Be Spoken.

All in all it was a heartfelt expression of pure patriotism here in America’s heartland.

And since we couldn’t be in GNV, Jill and I were glad to stand in solidarity with this hardy band of heartlanders.
