Someone told me it’s all happenin’ at The Harn

Listen, periodically I like to stop by at The Harn in search of something new and different. It is, by far, The Gown’s best cultural gift to The Town.

And I am never disappointed.

Complements of the Spelman College Museum Of Fine Arts, Silver Linings is a superb exhibition.

You really ought to check it out.

And right next door is Riding The 33rd Parallel: A collection of American landscapes that stretch from Cocoa Beach, Fl to Edward’s Air Force Base in California.

It’s really quite striking.

Hey, are you tired of all those “look but not touch” signs you see at virtually every museum in the world? Well, they’ve got you covered at The Harn. I stuck my hand into one of the pods and touched what I thought was foam rubber. But who really knows?

Oh, and you oughta see the Lost Tribe paintings.

Not far from this nostalgic view of Florida past (left) is a dramatic depiction (right) of the sort of refugee boats that changed the state’s destiny.

Seriously, look through any Harn window and you’ll see someone extraordinary.

Better yet, stroll inside and experience it all up close and personal?

  1. The Refugee Boats at the Harn. I inspected the tiny fragile boats and found them a bit wanting if one needed to sail very far. Like 90 miles to Florida. Well –many got here somehow and can still vote here, somehow defying Fidel and his Cuban army friends. As a sailor since the age of 4, We have color 8mm movies of sailing from I945! Imagine that…my Dad worked for J. Robert Oppenheimer. So now these former Cubans vote for Donald Trump, the opponent of Freedom that MANY Cubans came here to be find and free. You would think that Cuban escapees might be overjoyed to be able to vote for Freedom forever! But these escapees from Cuba just voted to elect Donald Trump, who aims to destroy Freedom and the USA?
