
Yes. I have elected to be out of the country on Election Day.
But. That doesn’t mean I am self-exiling in anticipation of the imminent collapse of American democracy and the rise of American fascism.
Yes. I am taking temporary refuge in the country that espoused liberte, egalite, fraternite.
But. It is also the birthplace of the guillotine and the Reign Of Terror.
Yes. I voted early in anticipation of my giddy escape into the night sky.
But. That doesn’t mean I have a bad feeling that Nov. 5 is gonna plunge the country into chaos, anarchy and disarray.
Yes. I believe in my heart that the American people are too decent to return a vicious, malicious, lying, demented, babbling and increasingly detached-from-reality felon to the White House
But. I’ve read Sinclair Lewis. Who famously wrote “There’s no country in the world that can get more hysterical—yes, or more obsequious!—than America.”
Yes. I believe, hope and trust that Kamala Harris is going to win.
But. I’d rather be somewhere else, if only for a little while, if she doesn’t.
Yes. Sometimes a vacation is just a vacation.
But. Sometimes you just gotta get the hell out of town.
