This just in from our Everything I Know I Learned At The Movies Department:

I recently rewatched “The Great Escape.” It has been many years since I last saw it, but I was once again reminded of why it is one of my all-time-favorite WWII action movies.
Check it out:

Action Hero Steve McQueen busts out, steals a motorcycle and ends up enshrouded in barbed wire when his fancy stunt riding falls short of expectations.
Action Hero Recaptured!

Action Hero James Garner busts out, commandeers an airplane. And ends up ditching it in an alpine meadow crawling with German troops.
Action Hero Recaptured!

James Coburn (whose name appears in small print because he wasn’t an A lister) quietly strolls into a village, straps his humongous suitcase to the back of a librated bicycle and just as quietly pedals off.
To freedom!
So what is the moral to this story, friends and neighbors.,
That the humble bicycle truly is Life’s Freedom Machine.

You’re welcome world.
